FIND YOUR ITALIAN LEVEL
Where are you in your Italian journey?
A language level is more than a list of grammar topics.
It tells you what you can understand, what you can express and how independently you can communicate.
Explore the levels below and see where your Italian feels most like you.
A1 Italian — Your Italian starts here
You may know little or no Italian yet. This is where the language begins to become part of your everyday life.
At A1, you start building the foundations you need to introduce yourself, ask simple questions and understand the small exchanges happening around you.
- Introduce yourself and talk about your everyday life
- Order food and drinks
- Ask and answer simple questions
- Talk about family, routines, likes and dislikes
- Understand common everyday expressions
- Build your first real conversations in Italian
A2 Italian — Italian for everyday life
Italian starts becoming something you can use, not just something you study.
At A2, you become more independent in familiar situations. You can talk about your experiences, make plans, ask for information and manage many of the conversations that are part of everyday life.
- Talk about past experiences and everyday events
- Make plans and arrangements
- Ask for directions and practical information
- Handle common situations in shops, cafés and restaurants
- Describe people, places and daily routines
- Take part in simple conversations with greater confidence
B1 Italian — Start living the language
This is where Italian begins to give you real independence.
At B1, you move beyond basic exchanges. You can tell stories, explain what happened, express opinions and take part in longer conversations about familiar subjects.
- Tell stories and describe experiences
- Express opinions and explain your reasons
- Talk about plans, hopes and intentions
- Follow the main points of everyday conversations
- Deal with many situations while travelling or living in Italy
- Speak with increasing independence and spontaneity
B2 Italian — Make Italian yours
You don't just speak Italian. You begin to sound like yourself in Italian.
At B2, the language becomes more flexible. You can discuss ideas, defend a point of view, tell a story with detail and understand more of the nuances behind everyday Italian.
- Discuss ideas and express complex opinions
- Argue a point of view clearly
- Use a wider and more precise vocabulary
- Understand increasingly natural spoken Italian
- Recognise common expressions, nuances and cultural references
- Communicate with greater fluency and spontaneity
C1 Italian — Beyond fluency
Advanced Italian isn't about speaking perfectly. It's about moving freely inside the language.
At C1, you work with nuance, register, idiomatic language and complex ideas. The goal is not simply to understand Italian, but to use it naturally and precisely in different situations.
- Express complex ideas clearly and spontaneously
- Adapt your language to different situations and registers
- Understand implied meanings, humour and nuance
- Use idiomatic and natural expressions
- Discuss cultural and abstract topics in depth
- Communicate with precision while keeping your own voice
